about us
Our
Story
Background:
The American Association for Marriage and Family Therapists (AAMFT) discontinued its state chapters which included Nevada’s state chapter in 2018. Local Licensed Marriage and Family Therapy professionals stepped in to create an organization that would seek to fill gaps previously addressed through the state chapter. In early 2019, Brinn Wallace brought together Monica Joyner, Jennifer Ross, Elizabeth Dear and Ryan Clifford to develop a northern Nevada organization to meet the needs of clinicians. By late summer of 2019, the newly formed Nevada Coalition for Systemic Counselors (NCSC) filed to become a non-profit organization.
The vision for NCSC was to provide clinicians with the opportunity for support and camaraderie within our own community. We noticed that many of us were seeing the same clients, but we did not have a good way to refer to one another and we did not know each other. We wanted to take a systemic approach and include professionals from all the systems in which we work. We envisioned that membership would include professionals from all behavioral health licenses, medical professionals, education professionals, legal professionals, parole/probation professionals, etc. NCSC's mission is to connect local professionals by offering networking opportunities, CEU's, events, clinician lists, internships site lists, licensing board advocacy, legislative advocacy, and more.
Mission:
We advance professional, ethical, and inclusive systemic counseling in Nevada through education, mentorship, advocacy, and community.
What we do:

Membership & Volunteering
We are dedicated to supporting both students, interns, and experienced clinicians in their professional development. As a member of NCSC you will part of a group of like minded mental health professionals who are promoting, hosting, and participating in activities built to help us flourish as clinicians. Education, consultation, mentoring, and socializing are all crucial aspects of keeping us well and connected to each other. We are working to make these connections
easily available and fun. We hope that you will experience your membership as something that supports you professionally, and offers opportunities for your development and success as a therapist.
If you would like to volunteer as a deeper way to be part of the community, and give back to the profession, we are looking for people to present CEU events, help plan and host these events, and mentor new clinicians seeking guidance. Membership offers both benefits and opportunities for service. We value our members and will be working to keep your continued interest in, and endorsement of, our mission.
Continuing Education
The NCSC sponsors continuing education opportunities for professional development throughout the year. Continuing education units/hours are requested from the different licensing boards of examiners. The NCSC CEU committee carefully reviews the needs of our community, local experts in the field of Marriage and Family Therapy, and important updates in the practice of systemic therapy. NCSC strives to put on events that satisfy local licensing requirements within the 2 year renewal period, including cultural competency, ethics, suicide assessment, and supervisor CEUs.
Mentorship & Networking
Quarterly social gatherings bring together NCSC Board Members, students, interns, supervisors, and licensed professionals in a relaxed atmosphere. These free events offer the opportunity to build professional relationships, develop referral networks, share valuable resources, connect supervisors and interns, and offer mutual support.
Practicum & Internship Pathways
Updated statewide site list.

Our intern liaison is designing opportunities for students, interns, and affiliates in adjacent fields to connect with each other. This initiative includes special events, as well as increasing the reach and services available to students and interns.
Ethics & Advocacy
Supporting high ethical standards and community education.
Community Events
Workshops, meetups, and annual gatherings are held throughout the year. Pathways is an event held in the spring meant to relay information regarding the internship process, provide opportunities for folks to meet potential interns and supervisors, and strengthen our clinical community via networking in a way that is engaging, fun, and informative.
Mentoring and Professional Development Day is a mainstay for the organization. This event, commonly held in October, provides a venue for soon-to-be licensed interns to meet with potential supervisors. A required topic for continued licensure is offered, such as ethics, suicide prevention, or diversity training. An hour of the day is set aside for supervision training. Other training topics are offered throughout the year depending on the needs of professionals and the community.
